MYRA DAVIES

MYRA DAVIES Bio
Myra Davies tells stories in sound and music, print, film and video, and theatre. Davies' original milieu was academy art. In Eighties Vancouver, she worked with Skinny Puppy who introduced her to Neubauten and it was a short skip from there to Gudrun Gut. From 1991 to 2004, Davies and Gudrun Gut released a trilogy of Cds and toured as MIASMA. Davies is an eclectic artist. Her theatre piece, 'The 40 Minute Ring' (a comic dissection of Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung) ran at Paddy's Playhouse in Toronto (2006). In 2007, she and Vancouver film maker, David Hauka made a short, "Alberta Ride of the Valkyrie" (Bravo!Video Fact). "Responsibility" was Davies' contribution to Toronto New Music group Toca Loca's 2008 P*P Project; a program of new Canadian works toured and recorded at CBC's Glen Gould Studios, Toronto, in March, 2008.

Personal Update
A couple of years ago, I embarked on the project to free myself from stuff. The personal property had to be cleared first. Next, I sold my house, then the car. Last year, I shed my sessional job. This process takes serious time but it's worth it. Now, everything fits in my Mac Book. 2008 New Davies & Gut releases in context of past collaborations
GIRLS & CITIES < GIRL SUITE and stretching back before < MIASMA

GIRLS & CITIES CD Key Word: Grownup.
The stories and the music on the GIRLS & CITIES cd work together to evoke shared experiences and a sense of global community. Diverse present and past cultures are treated in a spirit that is (even when critical) embracive and celebratory. The atmosphere here is clear air, natural light and political engagement suggesting some faith in social dialogue. Guts beats and Davies' droll humour are there but in emotive outlook, GIRLS & CITES is a 180-degree shift away from MIASMA's 'Kill Daddy' smoky Sturm und Drang club vibe.

The GIRL SUITE EP MIASMA Lives
THE GIRL SUITE EP has more of a MIASMA feel. LOVE DEMO is so full of razor attitude and club bass, it could be called MIASMA LOVE (Demo). And Gudrun's 2008 remix of DRIILL flips back to 80s grinding Electro-industrial sound. The other two tracks on the EP wouldn't be out of place in MIASMA either. With previous material still in release and performed, MIASMA hasn't been disowned but the concept was specific and became too narrow.

New Name " MYRA DAVIES"
We needed a new name. The Miasma circle is closed. Gudrun is using her name for solo releases (album: G.Gut: I put a Record on, monika55). Its Myra Davies now. That way, I can integrate other musicians and we already headed that direction. Two tracks on the cd are by other Electronica artists - STUFF by Danielle de Picciotto with Alexander Hacke and HANOI by Beate Bartel. So, our 2008 releases are under the name, MYRA DAVIES with Gudrun's name as Composer and Producer.
